Lake Hills Oasis Chaplain Mike Phelps celebrates 50 years in recovery

June marks a special occasion for Lake Hills Oasis Chaplain Mike Phelps.

Phelps is celebrating 50 years in recovery!

“I think I am the hope that it can happen to others,” said Phelps.

Phelps addiction to drugs and alcohol is a story clients at Addiction Recovery Care know all too well. It’s why Phelps has built a career helping others find what he now has.

“The thing that would identify me at Lake Hills Oasis is the joy and peace that I have that I bring to work with me and the hope that there is life after drugs.”

Phelps works with many clients who are merely days sober. He says many of the clients he works with can not even imagine a year in recovery let alone 50 years. However, his advice to anyone who has recently started their recovery journey is to take it one day at a time.

“Let’s not dwell on the past. It is gone,” said Phelps. “We can’t change it. We can’t do anything about the past it’s history! Let’s look forward to today and tomorrow. You know, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. That’s what I want for myself. I want Mike Phelps to be in love with him yesterday, today and forever. I think that is possible for us.”
